I know it's really impossible to tell for sure, but when do you people think Apple will update their MBP line?

It's due for a refresh, but between the iPad launch and rumors that Apple is skipping Arrandale altogether, it may be summer before we see new hardware.

But can Apple afford to wait that long?

It won't be that late. End of February is my guess.

These is the release dates of the previous MBPs so I would think/hope that it's in the next 3-4 weeks.

there's not a whole lot of software that people run on laptops that the current range of macbook pros can't handle with ease

i doubt the people who buy the highest spec laptops won't be willing to wait a bit longer.

Really looking to convert over to Macbook Pro from the dark side. Reason for doing so is I'm just sick of Windows as an operating system, and I bought an iphone which converted me to apple and my main use for a laptop is surfing, working, listening to music, downloading things in itunes and watching movies and game playing (football manager, strategy like age of empires etc)

Anyone know the fundamental differences between the current macbook pros and the new ones to be ? Are macbook pros primarily for architects/designers etc ?

    From AI:
A benchmark report for an unreleased Apple MacBook Pro sporting Intel's upcoming dual-core 2.66GHz Core i7 mobile processor was published online this week, suggesting a refresh to the professional notebook line may be imminent.

    Easily faked.

Yeah I'm so bloody desperate for the new macbook pro, I started a thread before looking for reassurances that the current line are still decent but for the price you're paying, the specs are not up to scratch in my opinion for a top on the line, premium product.

So I'm definitely waiting for the new line to be released. Some randomer on the Macbook Pro Rumors Forum is insisting that the new macbook pros are released this week coming and he has credibility apparently from the last releases so I'm hanging on to that prospect for the moment.

I really hope by the 16th Feb we do see something though.

If you don't need it right away then why not wait :). In order to get value for macs )spec wise) you need to buy them close to release time.

Well, with the Apple store being updated today, it seems that this geek was very well informed.

The new ones will have much faster processors, appearantly. This will also help drive the price down on second-hand MBPs on adverts.ie and elsewhere.

MBPs are laptops for anyone who uses OSX and wants a slick, powerful computer with a good screen, decent graphics, firewire etc.

Someone on Macrumors mentioned that Apple released the Penryn Macbook Pros 14 days after the release of Aperture 2.0.

Given we saw 3.0 last tuesday I'd safely say the 23rd is the release date for the refresh.
