Error Code -61

I'm trying to erase files on my ext flash but it won't allow me to because of "error -61". Some files are locked, but even the ones that are not refuse to delete/move to trash. I've tried using Disk Utility but the erase option is all blanked out i.e. no buttons are selectable. Verifying the disk begins but cannot complete due to error. I inserted it into a PC to try to use it but the antivirus refused to let me touch it. How can I render this useable again? I don't need to keep any of the data on the flashdrive. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Is it NTFS? Macs can't write to NTFS. You'd have to format it to FAT32. Or maybe it's just corrupted.

Trying unmounting/ejecting it and see if Disk Utility will let you reformat it then.

Thanks for the suggestion, but afraid that didn't do anything to help.
Sorry, should have said, it's formatted in Fat16

What about when you go to the partitions tab in Disk Utility?

The card isn't physically locked is it?

I don't think so, I've been using it to move files around recently with no problems. However, some elements, the 22yj2fy1.exe and autorun.inf files are locked, I presume that's the firmware of the drive. I can't seem to find the partitions tab. I've attached a couple of screenshots of the Disk Utility. Notice how repair, erase, etc are all unselectable.

Try clicking on the disk rather than the volume. Where it says "124 MB USB 2.0 Mobile". The partition tab will be available there.

Ah, there's the tab. But apparently the disk is completely empty and read only? Despite finder telling me there's only 20.3mb of space left? This really is messed up :( Thanks for all your help Sad Professor, is there any hope of rendering this useable again?

I think it's probably time to get a new one.

Its a long shot, but if the drive shows up on the desktop or finder, click get info and see if you have read write permission enabled under sharing and permission tabs.

It says I can only read, but I didn't do anything to make it so; I was copying, pasting and deleting earlier on the day it stopped doing that. Any idea how I can restore permissions?

There should be a drop down tab that makes it read and writable under the read only tab. if you can click on that it will ask you for your password.
Tbh that flash sounds like one of those Disgo flash drives that are more trouble than they are worth.

    It would appear no, :(

It's labelled as a "Mobile Disk IV", and the back says: "TwinMOS www.twinmos.com"

See the attached image of the "get info" for the flash disk.

Ok, it would appear that I have less brains than Bush...

Just discovered the read-only switch on the side of the flash today. Must've accidently hit it at some point, all working now! :)
