My rear brakes are really annoying me. When I pull them, the brake lever does not return to its original place, meaning it rattles around loose. The rear shoes also don't spring back out and sit about 0.5mm from the rim meaning they rub and slow me down. Today I took apart the entire brake mechanism and oiled everything....everything seemed to be moving freely however once I connect back up everything, it's the same thing :(:(:(

Please.....please help me...I don't think I can take much more going wrong with the bike....there's an annoying squeak at the moment that I just can't locate and I think I'm going insane listening to it :(

Sounds like a cable issue to me. How long has it been since you replaced them?

I replaced the cable today as the last one had split but it didn't fix the issue.

Is it possible the spring has lost it's tension? Although when I was taking everything apart, it seemed very tense to me.

OK, something is catching somewhere. If the caliper seems to springing back fine when it's been taken off, it's unlikely to be it. Did you replace the cable and the housing or just the cable? Next thing to check would be if there's a a sudden bend or kink in the cable routing. Then I'd start looking at the brake lever.
