Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone could direct me to the regulations on catapults. I believe its legal in the UK but what is the regulation here? Is it illegal? Are their guidelines on their use?

I cant see them mentioned in the wildlife act but I could have over looked them

    Any advice would be appreciated

    Thanks

That could be just for messing at targets. I had ones years ago, a black widow and a Barnett Cobra, but i wouldnt be too confident about hunting crows or anything with them.

I am not sure off the top of my head about this actually. My gut says it is not legal so I would err on the side of caution and NOT do it while we dig out the answer.

I got a Catty from the UK that is used by the Bushcraft community for hunting quite succesfully. However Im not taking it anywhere until I know the rule around them

It doesn't specify Catapults specifically but section 34 of the Wildlife Act 1976 says this
34.—(1) Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act apart from this section but subject to section 42, a person shall not—

( a ) hunt any wild bird or wild mammal by means of a trap, snare, net, line, hook, arrow, dart, spear or similar device, instrument or missile, or birdlime or any substance of a like nature, or any poisonous, poisoned or stupefying bait, or

It pretty much rules out everything so I'd give it a miss. Subsection 2 allows for the trapping of non protected wild birds though so you could take up trapping (more effective than shooting anyway) if you wanted.

Thanks for that. Well I do some rifle hunting anyway. This thing was just quite neat and I was heading abroad on a bushcraft trip to somewhere where it wasnt, so I said id pick it up.

I dont disagree with the rule to be honest

Mate of mine who is Garda said that possessing one in Ireland is illegal - so stick to rifle shooting... ;)
