    Hey all,

Im noticing that my clubs are bearding my golf balls a lot lately. Irons are TM RAC Mb's and are not new. I'm seeing the damage with PW-8i and not just on ProV1's, NXT's, Srixon AD33's everything.

Im only starting to see this recently, coinciding with improved ball striking actually.
Anyone else having issues with this much?

Yer probably catching the ball first then the turf, so better ball striking it is id say.

I'll try to get a picture of one but its pretty bad.
Long (0.5cm) bits of cover hanging off in several places...
Actually, is it legal to remove these before putting?

    5-3. Ball Unfit for Play
A ball is unfit for play if it is visibly cut, cracked or out of shape.A ball is
not unfit for play solely because mud or other materials adhere to it, its
surface is scratched or scraped or its paint is damaged or discoloured.

i know this doesn't answer your question but theres nothing in the rules or decisions about a player modifying his ball. if it were me I'd play it safe by holeing out and then substituting the ball.

Try hitting the ground slightly before the ball. The ball lasts much longer and it's a great way to get the ball releasing up the green. Just remember to take a club extra

Well I'm a good bunker player so it suits me to play this way.

Watch out for the five foot long divots doing that this time of year!

Thanks very much for the tip, played 18 at the weekend not a single mark on my ball. Took a while to get the distances right but after that I was fine. Just make sure you repair the divots.

Pretty sure ive seen pro's changing their balls BEFORE putting after inspecting their ball. They show their playing partners the ball and upon agreement they changed it. So i would imagine if the ball is deemed damaged its ok to change. Don't know if any rules, similar to the rules regarding playing with a damaged club' apply to golf balls.
