Phuket in August? worth the risk rain wise?

Was thinking of honeymooning in Phuket in mid August. I want good sunny weather, I know there will be rain, but is it always cloudy or will there be odd showers lasting a hr and then the sun comes back out. I know to expect at least one or two very wet days.

Anyone been there at that time of year?

I went to Thailand last year in July and the weather was grand. There was of course the occassional shower of rain! But if you are going around monsoon season expect to either be lucky or unlucky! We were caught in some storms over there- railay, and it can be a pain in the ass!! but it usually happened around the afternoon time so we did get our sunshine in the mornings!!

Wouldn't let it put me off though if the monsoon season was the only time I could get away on holiday! ..... I managed to get a tan on the very first day when there was no sign of the sun in the sky !!

went there in july august 2 years ago. it rained most days but they were heavy fast showers. most were finished in less than 10 minutes, 1 lasted about an hour. the heat is still there and it was great swimming in the rain.

I went there in Sept at the end of 8 months travel, so I didnt mind a few hours of rain every day-I was just looking to chill before I came home. But if I were on honeymoon I think I'd prefer no rain! It rained every day for a hour or 2, and some days were very cloudy too, so I think I'd be looking further than Thailand.

Koh Samui an island of the east coast of Thailand does not experience the monsoon in August like Phuket and would be a better bet.
