CNN International has reverted to CNN domestic for those who cannot get CNN USA 24/7 via net ;):)
So for those who want to watch the 'State of the union' address by President Obama it is now available on CNNi for all to watch.
the actual speech is due at 02.00 Irish time.
have been watching Foxy news for about half an hour now via net and as usual they have cheered Me up by their blatant stupidty/bigotry,what a joke of a 'news channel'!

For about a month last year, CNN domestic, HLN (Headline News) and Fox news were unscrambled on Telstar 15 west.
Both CNN International, CNN USA are shadows of their former self. I cannot understant the crazy "Themed" shows with Rick Sanchez, etc.
I dislike Fox News, but CNN channels are playing catch up with Fox and are losing badly.
Even CNN's sister channel HLN has itself overtaken CNN USA in ratings at many times during the day.
MSNBC has also overtaken CNN in the ratings.
Its sad that the very network that invented the rolling news format (CNN) is now so bad, that I seldom watch its service.
I switch between BBC News (UK), BBC World, and Sky News.

I cannot get msnbc as easily on the net as i can get the various forms of CNN,but Ted Turner who founded CNN recently said he would like to buy it back as he also feels it has lost its way.I like to watch the home networks if i can for a 'big' event in their Country.

Whatever about the BBC,Sky News is also a sham of its former self by many boardsies accounts.:)

    MSNBC
I often watch MSNBC on telstar, and it is very much "Themed" shows, with News presenters having strong opinions on subjects.
According to TV Newser, after president Obama's State of the Union address analysis, MSNBC host Chris Matthews said of President Obama: "It's interesting: he is post-racial, by all appearances. I forgot he was black tonight for an hour."
MSNBC is supposed to be a news channel.

    CNN (US and International)
US Web Site Politico's Michael Calderone writes about "anxiety" being exhibited at CNN and reports that at a recent annual meeting with CNN Worldwide president Jim Walton in Washington, bureau staffers expressed their discontent with some of the programming changes being made, namely Rick Sanchez gaining an hour for "Rick's List" and Wolf Blitzer's "Situation Room" being reduced to two:
Sanchez, who incorporates Twitter heavily into the show, is viewed by some in Washington as merging entertainment more with the news content than is customary at the network, and at one point Howie Lutt, senior director for "The Situation Room," stood up and asked the roughly 200 staffers assembled in the bureau to raise their hands if they respect him or Blitzer as a journalist, according to network sources.
Almost everyone assembled raised their hand for Blitzer; only a few showed similar support for Sanchez.

    Sky News
In the past I do agree that Sky news lost its way, but during the past year it has almost sorted itself out again.
I do wish they would remove the "News every 15 minutes" at off peak times.

BBC World has to be my favourite news channel.
Its presentation of news and world affairs is second to none.

BBC News channel (ex news 24) tries to be a clone of how Sky News used to be. But the double header presenters looks dated now. Sometimes the chemestry between the presenters is lost. Its often unwatchable when the on air presenters in the studio are doing a link and pretend they are best buddies !!
The BBC News channel still lags behind Sky in my opinion.

CNBC is also a fast paced network , with great news coverage.

Bloomberg has improved in the past six months, with some great new show additions, like Judy Woodruff and Charlie rose.

Anyhow, Yes I love watching the news.:pac:

    Lol Pacman,I too am a news junkie and would agree with almost all You said above except for cnbc&Bloomberg{no interest in world of finance}
The one's You did not mention that are FTA from Sky in Ireland&UK.

    NHK:fair but dreary.
    Press TV:Propaganda barely concealed.
AL Jazeera English:surprisingly fair and interesting.
France24 Excellant fair and well presented with some great Docs&interview shows.
Russia today:proved itself to be propaganda when the tempory loss of presidency by Putin was covered. It is a bit deceptive as most of the time it 'appears' balanced.
    CCTV-9 China-enough said!:)
Euronews:in general dreary but some great 15 minute documentries.

I wonder about the value of 24/7 news channels though.
THEY decide what is news and ignore the rest.
Mostly i find they leave me knowing something about everything but not enough about anything!:(

    cheers

sorry about the inappropiate emocians/smileys it has been happening sometimes lately???????

I have often wondered as to who decides the "Running Order" of news.
Who puts what news in what order of importance, and Why...

AL Jazeera, forgot to mention this in my earlier post.
Really good. It reports on stories in Africa, Palestine and India which other stations often ignore. Its a pity it has received such negetive reports in the written word, as to its treatment of its presenters and reporters.
I find it a great news channel.

France24, not my cup of tea. The Fast Camera angles they sometimes use in the studio, makes me Dizzy !!

EuroNews: great to watch news from the EU perspective. However my favourite part has to be "No Comment" segment.

PressTV: I have often watched this to see "The other View" from Iran, but all I see is reporting similiar to that from the Soviet era....
George Galloway had a show on pressTV at one stage. Awful stuff compared to his show on TalkSport radio.
Mike Mendosa. ex-presenter on TalkSport and LBC97.3 also has a discussion show on Press-TV. Again awful stuff.

Russia Today: I quiet enjoy some of the docs on this channel. The programmes about Russia, and its countryside are often interesting.

Looking forward to RTE-News-Now, whenever it launches !!:pac:

RTE news now is available as a test service on Irish DTT and on the RTE Player, basicly one bulletin rolling over and over:(

    I dont think there is enough news in Ireland for a 24/7 channel and they would never be able to have beareaus/correspondents for International coverage{You proably know all that already though!:)}

in other forums boardsies have came up with great idea's mixing news and various other features,That would be great!

Oh and G Galloway, did You have to mention him?Horrible image in my head now of him in a pussy-cat outfit on Celebrity big brother:eek::D

Is anyone else concerned at David Cameron's (mooted) plans to reform the broadcasting laws in the UK? Murdoch is lobbying the Tories to change the laws requiring fairness to allow Sky News to move to a right wing Fox-style format? Naturally enough, Sky are denying it, but I like this quote from John Ryley, head of Sky News:
"Whatever you think of Fox News, there is no denying that it has shaken up the sometimes staid world of US TV news by using commentators like Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity alongside its core news output."
He added that Sky News would not seek to copy the Fox News model, pointing out that the news channel was successful because viewers valued its objectivity.
"However, I believe that I should be free to make that judgment as a journalist. I neither want nor need to be subjected to the controlling hand of a regulator armed with a set of codes and sanctions," he said.
"We should trust journalists to exercise editorial judgments and we should trust viewers to choose the news that they want to consume."

Kay Burly is bad enough already. The last thing we need is her opinions on top of the bulls'hit stories she reports.

Tony Blair had 'secret' meetings with Murdoch in the run-up to his first election,The Sun newspaper came out in favour of Labour.

Recently the Sun came out in support of Cameron.
Murdoch can make or break a Govt!
    a dangerous Bast*rd IMO.

but hey,Kay Burley, well yeah She has become a bit 'self important' but still She is HOT!!!!!!!!:)

good lord that must have been her lowest point,May'be She has been too long at the job and has become 'robotic'?
In the main before i went off watching Sky news she could be as sharp as a razor and a fountain of knowledge on almost ANY breaking news story.
I know she would be hearing the director in her earpiece, but so do they all.She was/is full of facts all by herself, great memory recall!

I have said in an earlier post that I dislike Fox news, *But* do admit to watching Bill O Reilly sometimes. On Fox I often watch Sheppard Smith, who doesnt appear to be as biased as the other Fox presenters.
Glenn beck is awful in his opinions. Someday in the future we will all look back at this mad episode in broadcasting history, and ask why were these type of shows ever broadcast. They even have associations with "The Tea party", a group of people with a set political agenda.

Fox news makes around $70 million profit for Newscorp.
Sky news is, and always has been a loss maker

I hope that Sky News never goes the way of Fox.

    From Todays media Guardian
The onward march of Fox News, the relentlessly rightwing channel that has revolutionised American television news by making it overtly partisan, has been boosted by an opinion poll that suggests it is the most trusted news operation in the country.

Almost half of all Americans surveyed in the poll of 1,151 registered voters said they trusted Fox News. That is a notably larger vote of confidence than the 39% who said they trusted Fox's great rival CNN, and vastly more than the credibility ratings of the traditional news networks ABC News (31%), CBS News (32%) and NBC News (35%).

The poll findings are vindication of the commercial strategy of Fox News, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch and is the brainchild of his controversial henchman Roger Ailes. Fox News threw out the old model of television news – pitched towards a mass audience across the political spectrum and aspiring to standards of fairness in reporting – and replaced it with an aggressive drive for a niche audience of rightwing voters.

Qualms about the biased approach of the network has even reached the Murdoch family. Earlier this month the PR executive Matthew Freud, who is married to Rupert Murdoch's daughter Elisabeth, told the New York Times he was "ashamed and sickened by Roger Ailes's horrendous and sustained disregard of journalistic standards".

The latest rankings by Nielsen Media Research for all cable networks at primetime during the period dominated by the Haiti earthquake and the bombshell election of a little-known Republican to the Massachusetts Senate seat put Fox News top of the list with an average of 3.2 million viewers. That put it above lifestyle and entertainment channels and well above CNN in 22nd place.

As further evidence of its pre-eminence, Glenn Beck, the network's most strident and emotive of rightwing hosts, was this week voted second favourite TV personality in the annual Harris Poll, behind only Oprah Winfrey.

Plenty Irish people would be just as bad. We need to keep the media fair and regulated.

OH....The news about Fox news gets worse !!:pac:

FNC achieved its highest ever quarterly profit and increased its operating income 51% versus the second quarter a year ago primarily from affiliate revenue rate increases.
During the quarter, viewership at FNC was 197% greater than its nearest competitor in primetime and 136% higher on a 24-hour basis, reflecting FNC.s broadcasting the top thirteen shows in cable news.

In a note to News Corp. employees worldwide today, chairman & CEO Rupert Murdoch writes, "The FOX News Channel is far and away the leading news channel in the U.S. and is only continuing to grow its audience."

CNN is having a rough start to February in the primetime demo (8-11pmET). While the network had a strong enough January to pull back into second place among the cable news networks,
CNN has twice finished behind CNBC this week (Tue. and Wed.) in younger viewers -- and once behind The Weather Channel (Wed).
It could be an isolated, low-rated week, but CNN has only finished in 5th place (behind FNC, MSNBC, HLN, and CNBC) in the primetime demo four times in the history of the channel prior to this week.

i think that it is a reaction to Obama being President. When Bush was President many undeclared but Democrat leaning people would watch CNN and others for news as Fox owuld cause them to explode, fair enough.

Same now, many right wingers will not trust the other networks to report on the nasty evil President objectivly and so seek out the only outlet that does.
