Possible reason why mp3 will not transfer to ipod

This has me baffled. I downloaded an mp3 file from the net (Rapidshare) and it won't transfer to the ipod via itunes. The error message says "the file was not transferred because the ipod does not support....". Now the file plays perfectly in Windows Media Player and the itunes player on the computer. It is not corrupted as far as I can see. I have downloaded similar files from the same site and they transferred fine.

Google is not helping me and I would appreciate any tips.

BTW the device is a 1st generation ipod Touch updated to the latest firmware.

    Few possible reason

    1. Did you just try to copy across directly
    2. Did you transfer via itunes
    3. Could the mp3 be a variable bit rate type (The bit rate changes throughout the song - You can find out by playing it in Winamp and looking at the bit rate info on screen)

I think the third reason would be the closest explaination

    Good luck

Thanks for that. Yes I used iTunes. If option 3 is my problem, is there a fix?

    Try.

Right click the song>> select the create AAC version.

It will take a few songs it will create a new version of this track in Apples format with the bit rate you have set in your preferences in iTunes.
