when assigning say...a drumkit to VCA 1 on Midas Legend, will that still give me stereo panning or will i have to assign to 1 and 2 and hit pan to groups?

    thankies

a VCA isnt an audio fader so mono/stereo doesnt come into it. its only controlling the assigned group's faders so any panning you've done will remain.

as the venice only has mono groups, you're correct assuming that you'd need to assign your kit to groups 1 & 2 but theres really no need to even consider it unless you want to put something else in the signal path (comp, gate), the VCA group is all you need for level control.

its the legend 3000 now not the venice.

So I could assign the whole kit to say VCA 1 and ill still have panned overheads etc? Just these little questions that stay in my head and have to be answered:pac:

yea, vca's come before the pan pots, routing etc. So that is all channel dependant. Also, your pre-fade aux sends will be unnaffected by vca movement. Your post fade sends will be affected and thats good.

On another note, i'm sure some people may disagree, but i wouldn't say having all your drums on the same vca would be the best thing to do.
Lots of people do kick and bass together, or kick and snare.. then maybe toms hats and overheads on another. There are lots of different approaches though, so whatever works for you i guess
