Just wondering if it matters if the american spelling for words is used. Or is it counted as a mis-spelled word??

Considering this is Ireland, and we use Irish/British spellings, American words wouldn't be acceptable.
    Or so I'd imagine.

    American spellings are considered errors.

Except if quoting from poems with American spellings, for example, Eliot's "Prufrock" - "like a patient etherized upon a table" or something like that.
