If it's a simple point and shoot, then it'll be grand for what you want.
Just get into the habit of bringing it everywhere with you, and don't be afraid to use it!
Get into the habit of taking snaps, learning as you go along. No need for anything too fancy/ expensive when starting out!

Stephen, get yourself a card reader, cheaper the better :-) and download them onto your PC that way. - IE, whip the memory card out of the camera, stick it into the reader and plug that into your USB port, then browse through My Computer to get to the files. Move them from that location to a folder of your choise on your PC. (I'm presuming your not a MAC user.)

I've no problem taking the photos from camera to laptop, just have a problem with uploading them onto pages such as these, Its my modem I think, I'm using one of those 3Pay things and its not very fast at uploading.

thanks again, and I'm not a mac user for definite.

You need to reduce the file size down, try and see if the camera software can do this.

There's a windows 'powertoy' you can download which integrates into the shell,
IE, you right click on a jpeg file, select resize pictures and select the small, medium or large option. Also works on multiple selected files at once.
By far the easist option for shrinking jpegs.
