    Hi all

I am organising a Golf Classic at the PGA National Palmerstown www.palmerstownhouse.com for Saturday 6th February. All proceeds going to GOAL and the Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

For anyone interested in playing the rate will be €400 for a team of four and this will include food afterwards, prizes on the day and live 6 Nations Rugby on afterwards in the club house. Ireland V Italy at 14:30.

Anyone interested please contact me on caoimhan.considine@gmail.com . Need to have a definate number prior to confirming with the course.

    Many thanks

Anyone from here fancy this as another 'European Club' esque outing?
Great venue... easily accessible... good cause etc.

I'd be interested if i conno and gorfield came along haha.
Played mount temple last week they have a fundraiser down there, nearest to the pin on the first for €5. I'd imagin the prize is just a free round or something.

Fabulous course on it's day (the clubhouse is also, especially the locker room) don't know how it will perform after the recent/current cold snap though (feels colder today than ever)..

Even though the entry fee goes towards a much needed appeal (which I have already donated kindly too) I think it's a bit pricey giving the time of year that you are playing the course on.

I would be interested, along with 5-6 others but not at this price.

    Hi all

Thanks for the feedback, looks like this will not be going ahead due to a lack of interest. I think the day with the rugby match and the time of year were against me.

IN TUITION would be interested to hear what you would consider a fair price for this classic, as i was wondering if i had priced this out of peoples reach? I thought the fact there was food and good cause that it was not too bad a price. What would you have said yes to, i am not trying to be negative but just wondering? Thanks again and thanks licksy for sending on this message.

I think a fair price for a classic on a good golf course should be no more than €60 per person/ €240 a team food included. You can get a daily golf course rental rate of between €2000-2500 and that is even during the summer and then about 10-15 euro per person for the food. Even with average entry of 35 teams you are making at least 50%/ €30 on each person whcih i think is good for the fundrasiers/organisers and great value/attractive for people entering.

    Hi Caoimhan,

First off, the timescale between informing people here and the date of the event is somewhat short. I think if you planned the event for the back-end of Feb, possibly the 27th you would benefit the cause more.

I have to also question why Palmerstown House (PGA National), do you have ties to the operation there?

I think most people would jump at the opportunity to play the course but, at a reasonable rate.

Money from entries fees should not be going towards the 'prizes for the day' - realistically these should be donated by some golfing retailers, after all it's for a worthy cause.

Not everyone can make the day out of it, travelling back home/family commitments etc so paying for food once again from the entry fee is incorrect. Personally if I was retreating to the club house I would rather have a menu in front of me and pay for what I would enjoy eating.

Taking everything I said into consideration I think an entry fee of €180 per team (four-ball) (€45 per player) at this time of the year is a more sensible approach and might raise some cash for the fund.

    Good post.
I'd doubt any link to the course, even from the use of PGA national in the OP. As far as I know it isn't called that anymore (license issue?). Presumably more to do with quality and location. Somewhere had to be picked and it is as well located as anywhere else.
Short notice is certainly an issue because people will have commitments made for that weekend already.
I guess it depends on who it's aimed at but as a guide, there wasn't a lot of love for The European club @ ~ €80 as a possible venue for an informal outing for the readers on here over the Christmas but once Mr. Ruddy dropped his price to €40 for a week there were plenty of people from here (and of course elsewhere) that made the trip...

If it goes ahead, and if a team is getting together from here I'll most likely go.

I'd need to know soon enough though.

Mansfield decided against renewing the licence with the PGA, and it's now called Palmerstown House.

Slightly off topic, how was the course? Am going mad for a round and its close enough to me. Was out that way last sunday there was nobody on the course.

If the fundraiser is going ahead at a later date (and the course would not be too much for a high handicapper) i'd be interested in joining in with a team.

Would a more central location suit either?

The course was absolutly excellent, one of the more challenging ones I've played. I couldn't speak more highly of the president? Not to sure if that's his position. One of the main reasons I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone. I lost some amount of balls. Conno's mate has the course record.

i enjoy playing there and there is always a friendly athmosphere around the place. From what i saw last sunday some of the long rough has been cut well back around the 3rd hole too.
Dunno how you managed to loose a lot of balls though!!
16th is some hole as well - lay up just before the stream and fingers crossed you make the green with second shot!
