    Hi Folks,

just a query on behalf of a friend. They are part of a small office (2 people,2 pcs) and looking to set up a network based drive they can both access in the office and also with external to the network too if possible (ie,at home etc)

also any recommendations for brands of drive are greatly appreciated, i havnt had a chance to look around myself and i am unsure of the size of drive they require but i believe 2 TB should be fine

    thanks

Have a look at the new LG NAS, you can buy just the case or with hard drives included. Best prices for these are on elara.ie and dabs.ie, reason I know is I spent a few weeks before Christmas researching NAS for myself. Links below are for the NAS without drives, as would eb cheaper to add drives yourself.

this is what we use for our clients. Very good, stable and reliable. Also has an excellent web based interface for setting up external VPNs etc...

I was reading a lot about the netgear stuff.. And I was never really a fan.. But they seem to be getting solid reviews. One of our suppliers was trying to use Buffalo. But we haven't invested yet.

    Hi Rory,

Well its our SBS server replacement kit for our SME's and its working a treat.. Its solid stuff.. I mean Raid and Nas is tried and tested now. all the major bugs are fixed. Now its not for everyone mind you but its a cleaver product right now as a lot of people cant justify 6k servers anymore and these do pretty much the same job in a small business....

Don't forget to factor in data backups to different storage. Loss of data can cripple a business.
