    Hey Hey,

Just looking for advice on a certain matter.

Is it Illegal to fire an employee for being out on sick leave, Regardless of the length of time out? I`m pretty sure it is but just need to confirm. Obviously the sickness needs to be proved by doctor certs e.t.c

You can't get advice here. Only a solicitor can properly advice you. You might look at the charter.

The Department of Enterprise and Employment have an office at Adelaide Road, Dublin 2 that may be able to help or alternatively your union.

There are many factors at play, including duration of illness, length of employment and the employers requirements, e.g certain people with Hepatitis B(?) would have problems working in the catering industry, as there may be public health issues, however they might be able to work in admin or other position where they don't deal with food or the public.
