In the market for a laptop and would appreciate some advice on query below

    Budget: €600
Intended use: Internet incl email, watching sport online, skype calls. No gaming. Will use for small amount of work at home on excel and word
Mobility: minimal - mainly used in home - looking for 15"
Warranty: standard 1 year is ok
    Operating System: windows 7

From previous threads and review websites mentioned I've opted for Toshiba.

I've narrowed it down to 4:

    L500-1RE
    Intel Core 2 Duo T5870
    L2 Cache 2MB
    2GB RAM
    250GB
    €541

    L500-19X
    Pentium T4300
    L2 Cache 1MB
    4GB RAM
    500GB
    €599

    L450-17R
    Pentium T6570
    L2 Cache 2MB
    2GB RAM
    500GB
    €546

    L500-1VV
    Pentium T6570
    L2 Cache 2MB
    3GB RAM
    320GB
    €582

From a benchmark list on notebookcheck.com I gather T6570 would be the best processor. Would I be right? If this is the case between options 3 and 4 would the 3GB Ram and 320GB HD be better than 2GB RAM with 500GB HD. I was leaning towards 2GB/500GB as thought 2GB would be sufficient and I'd get more storage.

There was another option with AMD AThlon X2 GL65 with L2 cache 1MB, 4GB RAM, 250GB HD at €577 but I notebookchecker indicated processor wasn;t as good.

Brain is fried at this stage so any advice/comments would be appreciated.

I would personally go for the 4th one. If you are worried about the storage space then you can always get an portable external drive. Having 3gb RAM would be nice, for me better than having a little extra strorage. 320GB is a lot of space.

Saw a new Toshiba L500-1XD with the new iCore3 processor, 4GB Ram, 320GB HD at, I think €650, in PC World yesterday. Might be worth a look.

    MBRC /

Did you have a look at the last Toshiba which was rec to you , the one with the i3 processor ?

By any chance did you buy it ? I am thinking of buying it and I am wondering where might be the cheapest place to get it.

Also, if you did buy it - what do you think of it ?

    Thank you.

apologies dobh for delay in responding.

I opted for an Asus instead. I came across negative reviews for Toshiba compatability with Skype which was one of our main needs. I don't know if this is true but decided to go with Asus in the end.

    Bought it from laptopsdirect.ie
