i went into a course in co meath that im thinking of joining to see what the story is.
none of my mates are joining anywhere so one of the questions i asked was what was the craic with sunday competitions,i asked on the day of competitions would it be possible to join in with a 2 ball or 3 ball which would be a good way of getting to know some of the members.the fella stuttered and mumbled that maybe some of the new members might be interested in doing that , i got the impression that current members wouldnt have time for new members.
just wondering what do people think ,am i gonna experience this in other courses that i am interested in joining.are current members gonna have no time for new members ?

I think ignorance like that will be evident anywhere people feel hard done by "losing" their original entrance fee.

I think you'll find them in the minority though.

Obviously I don’t know the set up of the exact club, but I’ve found that its common practice to put your name down and play with whomever else is on that line, even if you are a new member the vast majority of excising members should be fine. Off course you’ll get your odd dickhead but there not all that plentiful, but you’ll find there’s a small amount maybe one or two in each club up and down the country so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Give it time, maybe 2 months and I bet you’ll have a regular 3 or 4 you’ll be playing with every week, so in the long run of things you’ll be grand. As we’ve distinguished on boards before, clubs are dying for new members, so don’t worry about some dick in the golf shop having a bad day.

    +1 to that from Jimjo
Generally new members are made to feel welcome and pretty soon you'll have a regular 4 ball going.
Don't worry about the 1 or 2 dicks in each club that have a chip on their shoulders about something.

It can be daunting when you don't really know anyone to begin with but you'll find the vast majority of people are open to playing with anyone. The people involved with the club should be helping you though... sometimes it's not easy even as an 'established' member to pair up with someone because often people will have their own usual groupings but those in the shop should be helpful in pairing you up. If there is online booking then this would make things better because you can spot the gaps yourself and slot in.

thanks lads. i was quiet surprised when he said that to me especially as jimjo said that most clubs are dying for new members.
