    Hi Folks,

Not really a regular here but know all boardies are helpful!

Basically, looking for a nice course within say an hours drive of letterkenny. Budget up to about €40 or 50 each. And we would need to be able to get two lines on a saturday or sunday in early march...Any ideas?

    Thanks in anticipation!

There are several. The likes of Ballyliffin or Rosapenna I would recommend most highly, and are about 30 mins frive from Letterkenny, may be slightly over your budget though. Narin and Portnoo is another lovely links course, which I'm pretty sure is well within an hour's drive. Their rates are usually reasonable too. Murvagh is a fantastic course IMO, located just outside Donegal town. All these are links courses. There is a course in Letterkenny and another parkland 15 minutes away in Ballybofey (I'm a member there), but they might not be in as good a condition as the links courses at that time of year.
Of all the courses mentioned, either Murvagh or Ballyliffin (Glasheady) would be my pick, but both are very testing courses. If you want more of a gentle test, somewhere like Dunfanaghy would be ideal and is a really nice place to play.

letterkenny and ballybofey are poor courses imo.
murvagh in donegal town is about 30 miles away - class course
nairn and portnoo is about 30 miles away - quirky but a good test
ballyliffin - outside price range but one great course and i very average - not sure but i think glasedy is the nice one.
i have not played sandyhills in rosapenna but all the reports are top class from anyone who has visited.i hear it is 75 euro a round but maybe a deal can be done.

    FYP :p

Sandy Hills....not a big fan. It's just too punishing. Go in the rough and you most likely won't find your ball. There are a number of blind shots too which don't help. Old Tom Morris course in Rosapenna I really like and play there a lot. Much fairer test than Sandy Hills and the new 9 should be fully in play by now.

Courtesy of their twitter site I see there’s €30 opens on Fridays, good value.

They have a fair few classics there on weekends, you might get lucky and jump on someones team for 40 odd quid, worth it, lovely course.

Thanks guys. Thinking Dunfanaghy or Ballyliffin. I'll check with the others in my group and see what kind of "challenge" they would like!

Turns out Ballyliffin has a winter rate of €50 at all times until 31st match! happy days.

If you're picking between these two, I don't think Dunfanaghy holds enough interest, and it can be a brute in the wind (very exposed). Portsalon is a peach and closer than Ballyliffin. If you prefer the parkland track, Letterkenny is better than most people make out and it'll be closest to you - but it will depend on how wet it has been beforehand as the front 9 are down at estuary level.

Have a look at my Flickr pics and you'll find most of the courses on there
