10 complaints upheld against PlayTV

I remember being asked about an aspect of this, I was not one of the complainants.

The BCC ruled that some of the PlayTV programmes broadcast on TV3 from July to November were dishonest, unfair, misleading and lacked transparency.
The BCC considered 27 complaints at its meeting on 12 January. It upheld 13 and rejected 13.

The Committee said it was not in a position to consider one complaint on Jet FM because of a lack of audio. The station has been notified of breach of contract.

But will the BCC actually do anything about TV3 and this scum programming of theirs ??

We should ask the BCC to rule on whether RTENL can carry this piece of crap or whether it should be on a non FTA premium channel like 3e .

I watched this last night and was intrigued by who the question’s seemed to be so easy and yet no-one was ringing in. So I decided to give them a call, well I got to answer a voice machine on some question on Harry Potter and was hung up with a quick statement on try again next time you might get through to the studio. Not quite sure what happened I decided to try ringing again and got another stupid voice machine question followed by a quick hang up.


They advertise a web link on the screen so I tried that. They have a tab showing them amount of calls coming in per minute it ranged from 74-95 per minute. Yet the girl on screen is saying come on we need someone to answer the question.
They also have another tab showing the money been given out It varied from a couple of hundred to about 2 grand. Now there was also days were they gave out no money.
The web site also states that this not been able to get through is part of the game.

The programme runs for about three and a half hours I take the min rate of 74 calls a minute and 1.50 a call that works out at 23,310 euro’s, lets be generous and give out the 2 grand and that’s a nice bit of money there making.

I hope RTE does not notice the money they can rake in at this, cause they will all be at it soon.

Anybody who thinks they can win money on these programs should be in bed by 9pm anyway. Grown ups should know better than to dial the number.

I was looking at this for a minute yesterday, the question was name countries that don't have an A in them. So they have three answers and then the producer comes on saying that they haven't got Internet access. So they can't verify if their are any others. Soif you ring in with another one we'll give you the money or if you can prove their are no more they'd also give you the money.

What a scam.

I know what they are doing is probably within the law, and folks should know better and read the small print and just cop on etc. but it really should be against the law to exploit stupid people or drunk ones given the hour it's on.

You know there's some thing honest about someone who robs your wallet on the street, but this is just down right nasty and underhanded.

Being on the scratch myself, and seeing this and nobody calling for an easy question for 20 minutes I have to say I had to remind myself what I was watching.
