New to Ubuntu - Losing Server Connection

I'm fairly new to Ubuntu. I am using the remote server location to edit my website files live online. Only every now and then I seem to lose connection or the files cannot be saved remotely. I don't think it is the editor (Bluefish) as I cannot view the remote files using the folder view from my "Places".

However I have installed Filezilla and often when I cannot connect using my "Places" I can connect fine by Filezilla.

How come this is the case? Its kinda annoying not being able to save remote files.

Many FTP servers have a connection inactivity timeout - 5 or 10 minutes is common. Is there a keepalive option in the Bluefish FTP config?

Unfortunately its not keeping the connection alive that I have the trouble with. It is that I cannot get the connection to open.

I am using Ubuntu's "Connect to Server" to try set up my FTP. This is found at Places >> Connect to Server. I fill in my details for FTP (with login). Then when I try to connect I get the following error

The folder contents could not be displayed

Sorry, could not display all the contents of "/ on ftp.****pete.com": DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

Sometimes I do manage to connect, I'm just wondering is anyone else having this problem connecting to remote servers and if anyone has any possible remedies for this problem could they please post them.

I can however always connect through Filezilla. Unfortunately I cannot open remote files through Filezilla without copying them on to my hard drive first.
