Brother has a Leon 2000 model. The passenger side carpets are soaking with water somehow . It includes the carpet under the passenger and rear seat passenger footwell.

Anyone advise how the water could have got in and what he should do to dry the car out.

    Thanks

It's a known and well reported issue on various forums - google it. Happened in my folks 02 Leon. IIRC, the inside part of the door had to be taken off, and some silicone bead had to be applied along the bottom. This might help:

As for drying out, get as much out with towels/paper towels. Rest will eventually dry out. You'd often hear people recommend putting small heaters into the car to help speed up the process. Being able to detatch the carpet to allow access to dry and enable air circulate underneath would help also.

Saw a similar thing happen before and the problem was found to be around the wheel arch.

This thread is a little back in the forum, and relates to an MK4 Golf, but considering they share the same chassis, give it a look.

Is the rear washer working ok? Just wondering has the union joint popped in the cold weather - very common problem with some VAG cars, not sure about the Leon.

Yes this does happen on the leon, happened twice on my car.

Places the leon is prone to leaks.

If the pollen filter has been replaced water can leak into the pass side footwell due to the filter cover not replaced properly.
Inner door panel seals are made from foam and perish over time, this causes water to leak over the door sill and soak the carpets.
Rear window washer pops off it's union in the rear pass boot, also pops off in the tailgate.
Water also leaks into the cabin from the scuttle panel where all the electrical cable enter the car.
Water leaks into the car from a badly sealed metal seam in the bulkhead, not do easy to fix.

Have you your water problem sorted??? I have a similar problem'
Just got Toyota Yaris last week (private sale) car was smelly ' when we got it home my dad discovered the carpets at the back were wet so he pulled the seats out pulled up the carpet ' took the rubber foamy underneath ( persume for sound proffing ??) that was saturated and now the car is practicaly naked. Ran it through car wash' no water ? I am baffled how so much water was in it and now nothing. Bought new rubbers for under the carpet for over €200 ' carpet was valated and now im afraid to put them back in ' what if it happens again..

Where is the union joint located as a matter of interest ? would it lead to a wet boot as opposed to footwells.

It's in the left hand side of the boot, above the boot interior light. The union pops off and washer fluid leaks into the boot.

Standard VAG problem - cabin filter intake plenum chamber fault. Translation: Pollen filter housing leak. Find it and plug it with silicon sealant. Clean out the plenum chamber while you're there.
