    Hi there

I'm just wondering if anyone knows if it would be possible for me to sit the honours irish leaving cert paper in June this year?I did my leaving cert in 2001 but only did pass irish.Im now thinking of doing primary school teaching as a post grad course, but probably not for a couple of years as a plan to go travelling later this year.If possible I thought if I did the Irish in June then I'd have it done when I come back from travelling.Ive got a form for an examination number but it has to be in by this friday and I'm trying to work out how likely it is that I would be able to sit the exam in June?I have quiet a bit of time off in the middle of the day to study.Any help or advise would be appreciated
    Thank you

Only you can judge if you're going to get the work done. Are you taking classes?
I wouldn't advise trying to teach yourself.

Get the form in to the SEC first of all.
Find and enrol in one of the Easter revision courses. Get some time in the Gaeltacht before the orals (they are on 12th to 23rd April).

I should have enough time to do a couple hrs sudy each day but my irish is rusty so prob be tough!I havnt taken any lessons yet.Ive been onto a couple of the VEC's and they seem to just do full time day classes which I cuuldn't really do and prob couldnt join half way through the year.
Ive heard that Kilroys do the course by sending u out notes but I'm sure u would have to do grindes too, which could make it very expensive!Im still trying to work out how you go about getting the coursework and finding an exam centre.

Once you apply to sit the exam the SEC will either assign you a local centre or you can choose one (checking with the school first).
If you can't find a night course, you could maybe look at the thread in the LC forum offering grinds.

    1. Yes, it is very much doable. But, as Spurious said, it depends entirely on the effort you put into it.

    2. Listen to RnaG (www.rnag.ie) every single time there is conversation on it and you have the radio on. Download podcasts of previous conversations. It is extremely helpful, both for improving your familiarity with, and thinking in, the language during exam time and in attuning your ear to the spoken language (assuming there is still an aural component of Leaving Cert Irish)

    3. Go to extra classes at night; ring up Conradh and Gael Linn for the most appropriate class for your target.

    4. If you have the money, get private tuition. Contact your local school, talk with a Leaving Cert Irish teacher there and see if they could oblige you in this regard. It would be worth it, and if you give up going out or some other luxury you can afford the investment.

    Beir bua!

You will need to get moving if you want to sit the Irish exam this June. The course is long and at times boring. You will need to do a lot of stories and poems and also a longer text. The oral is in a couple of months and you will need to practice this a lot. I think that it would be worth your while getting an initial grind to get a handle on the course and work from there.

I would advise waiting until next year. If u were to repeat the leaving in June u would even find it tough if u were studying full time and not working at all. It would be near impossible to fit a 2yr course into under 5 months and get a good result. Best of luck in whatever u decide to do :)

You know yourself what level you are at. Get onto the sec a.s.a.p. Any questions, just mail me.

    Hi all,

I am aiming to sit the leaving certificate Irish higher level in summer 2011. I am currently attending an Irish course once a week, listening to rnag at every opportunity and studying every day- I have been doing this for 6 weeks and have seen great progress already which has given me the drive to really pursue the exam in 2011. I am aiming to get a c3 minimum to leave a door open if I ever wanted to teach. However the real drive is just to learn my own language!

I am coming from a pretty low base, I sat the foundation level Irish exam in 2003. I have 18months to prepare for the exam in 2011 and am looking for advice.

I am planning on getting grinds starting in September and continuing that for the length of the year until the exam. However I realise that its a two year course and I am quite behind the rest of the bunch as it is, so should I just jump straight into grinds now? or keep learning the language and course as I have been to date?

    Any advice would be great!

Too late for 2010 but the comment about not being able to cover it in five months is nonsense opinion. It only takes a few weeks if you do it correctly. PM me for details,
