Selling/exporting a car to the USA

    Hi,if someone in the US wanted to buy a car i was selling how would the legal/registration process work from my end and from their end,anyone any insight or experience in this matter?

    Current exchange rates favour exporting from the US to Europe so i'd hope you're getting a good deal.

    I've never done it but i've heard importing into the US can be a nightmare. You haev to make sure the emission control and crash protection equipment is identical spec to the same vehicle as its sold in the US.

    If you're importing a model that isnt sold in the us it gets even more complicated.

    Not a scam 100% on that.

    I imagine the red tape on their side would be a pain but how much of a pain,would it be worth working through it for the right car i wonder.

    Well what sort of car is it?

    If its older than the emission control regulations of 1973 then I think there's quite a few exemptions and it wont be so difficult.

    Post-73 though and you'll be doing some rebuilding.

    California is by far and away the toughest state to import into. They have their own, even more strict, emission rules than the rest of the coutry.
