    Hi

Got a new External HDD - Iomega 320GB

I went to copy my files from my MacBook to the disk and threw up this error.

I was able to copy piece by piece but I have a lot to copy.

Its formatted FAT and I never exceeded the 4GB file transfer limit.

I never had this problem before,

Anyone got any info or tips ? I am gonna copy it all on my PC but its just strange its only happened now

    Thanks

    SZ

I think an error -36 just means the transfer has been interrupted. The cause could be any number of things. A corrupted file, a corrupted filesystem, a bad sector, a failing hard drive, etc. My first instinct would be to scan both drives and make sure they are healthy.

Is it a portable usb powered drive btw?

I think I'm getting the same sort of problem. If I try to back up data from my FAT32 formatted disk keys onto my FAT32 external hardrive I get an error.
"The operation can’t be completed because an item with the name “blah” already exists."
If I try copying data a different way I get: "The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in "blah” can’t be read or written. (Error code -36)"
Backing up contents of my mac works fine. But saving files from my disk keys onto my mac and then transferring them to my harddrive doesn't work. Everything has been scanned my the latest Sophos for mac and the disk keys and external hard drive have been checked using a different PC virus scanner. And there is loads of space on the external harddrive. It has been like this for the past two months, but worked fine for years beforehand.
After reading here I see that it is believed that this may be a fault of the latest update to the operating system. Anyone else experiencing this?
