I'm a first year interior design student in Dublin and I am hoping that some of the designers on this forum can help me. To date I have achieved distinctions in each assignment I've worked on and really enjoy getting my designs out there. Unfortunatly, due to the down-turn in the market it seems that few companies can afford to take on young designers for work experience.

I'm hoping that someone on the forum from the Dublin area could give me the opportunity to work with them and get a better insight into how a designer works on an average day. Even if its just to help out for a day or for longer if possible it would be much appreciated.

Please pm me if you think you can help
    Thanks

    Hi Crackerspray,

I am an interior designer, out of college about 4 years.

It is tough out there at the moment and I agree that you probably won't find any company that will be willing to take on a student and pay them.

So you should try and get unpaid work experience. Experience is everything in this career so I would advise you to try and get as my much experience as you can.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the reply Joanne82.

I'm dying to get a bit of experience but apparently companies cant take me on (even for free) if they've let staff go, due to legalities :( As far as I can see, every company has let staff go, which I kind of expected!

I'm going to be idle for the summer at the rate things are going, so if you or anyone you know have projects or events coming up in the Kildare/Dublin area I'm more than happy to help out! As you pointed out, experience is everything and would be more than sufficient payment for any work!

    Thanks again

There is a reduced amount of work experience available. We have had many work experence people over the years and would be willing to give you experience subject to interview.
