Has anyone else played this yet? just finished it the other day and its ballsy in its ridicule of the church and anti religion sentiment throughout the game, yeah its a video game, but its one thats got a really decent plot running throughout, but the main aspect of it is the corruption of the Catholic Church, set in 15th century Italy, you play a young man who's father and brother are killed by a corrupt family, one of whom rises to become the pope a decade later, and ends with you breaking into the Sistine Chapel and killing him in front of a mass service, pretty cool stuff.

Theres a disclaimer at the beginning of the game that states it was created and produced by a team of people from various faiths and religions, and that its a work of f-i-c-t-i-o-n. Im surprised there hasnt been more hoohaa about it, especially in this country, where religious ould wans have Joe Duffy on speed dial, its full of factual places and people but with a spin on it that involved the protagonist of the game, I'm pretty sure Bernardo Baroncelli wasnt hung out the window of the Palazzo de Signora by a would be young assassin out for revenge for his father, but its tied in nicely to the actual Pazzi conspiracy in history. Also it constantly has little digs at religion in the database entries for the historical buildings, especially the one about St Peters Basilica.

Its refreshing to see a game that has no qualms about pointing out the hypocrisy and corruption in religion, something that not many mediums do,especially for one that most people see as for kids, which its far from

The story was terrible! A loose connection to historical events slapped together for the sole purpose of creating dozens of repetitive missions. While I see your point, I think the anti-religious sentiment was benign most of the time.

If dan brown could write software this is the game he'd write.

Well ok the story is a mish mash of real events tied togeother with a fictional plot, but its really the way it weaves real life events into it that i thought was cool, Leonardo Da Vinci was a nice touch, and the amount of detail in the recreations of Italian cities was outstanding

Spoiler tags might be appropriate in the OP.

I didn't find it any way anti-religious to be honest. The villains in the game are the Templars, and you only
assassinate the pope because he's a Templar who's infiltrated the church.

I thought the game was ok but what a terrible, terrible ending. The Sistine Chapel mission was fun enough but the discovery afterwards left me disappointed. This disappointment was made worse afterwards when I found out that I couldn't replay missions .

It also has no qualms about the
    2012 conspiracy
so I don't think the game is sending any message about anything - It's just a game.

One thing that should be pointed out is that these games sell more than movies. I believe the gross of the new call of duty was 300 million in first week while the highest grossing movie in history in its first week was only a measly 150 million.

In saying this think of the amount of influence movies have had on people. Interactive games like this have a huge influence on people i believe. The fact that an anti religious game like this is being exposed to large amounts of people is quite amazing i find.

I liked the idea of , gigantic spoilers ahead about the ending btw
That "god" was a higher form of life, almost alien, that created us, but its message was lost over the course of time and manipulated into what modern religion is

I did like the popes dig at the bible "a book full of myths and superstitions"

I just finished it 30 minutes ago. What a terrible story, I called my dog in for a pet during the last few minutes of dialogue as I just couldn't bear all the nonsense. It's too bad really, the game could have been fantastic with the ridiculously fantastic cities they crafted.

Well the Pope in question was Alexander VI, and anyone who knows about him would agree he's was a right old bastard.

This old nugget? Compare the cost of a new video game to a movie ticket. Suddenly the 'video games sell more than movies' argument seems very weak.

Renowned pope Alexander VI stumbled blindly through a darkened alcove of the Sistine Chapel. With one hand grasped over his futilely bleeding chest, the seventy-four year old man fell forward to his knees before the silhouetted assassin dressed all in white.

It was moderately anti-church but not particularly atheistic, a higher power was pretty strongly implied.

    Fun game though.
