The reason I ask, is at the moment rite of passage is in the supreme novice hurdler and also in the neptune investment novice.I was told today in the bookies that if i put a double with him and dunguib and he doesn't run I won't get my money back.So basically i want to know when will it be decided what race he runs?

I'm not sure when entries close for the novice race but I'd be fairly certain that Rite of Passage (among many others) will get an entry in both the Suprmem and also The Neptune

Connections may indicate their which they intend to run in long before the festival but it could be the 5 days decs or possibly even the day before the race before you know for certain

Cheers Colonel Sanders, i suppose you don't know when I can bet without losing my money if rite of passage is a non runner in one of the races. As i mentioned i wanted to do a double with him and dunguib when the odds are reasonable but don't want to lose my money if he is pulled

    Hey Nari,
unfortunately you won't be able to bet 'no runner no bet' until probably a week before the festival. Oh the pitfalls of ante post bets!

Dunguib has been drifting in and out all week for the supreme

Personally think connections would be mad to go for the champion but some people think there is at least a chance that he will

If you have 1 NR in a double, even an AP double, surely it reverts to a single instead of a loser no?

Mdwex, help them for jasus sake! :D

If you back ANY horse for ANY race antipost, unless it is specially stipulated, a horse that does not run on the day is deemed as a loser. Some bookies will advertise ' no run no bet' as we get closer to Cheltenham so you should search around. In my experiance at this stage you are probably better off waiting for the day itself, getting up in the morning and shopping around for the best price available. At least if he is a non runner THEN you get your money back. Most value backing antipost is well and truly gone by this stage and you are messing with the horror of losing your money without a run!

As Westlife says the value is gone from most of the ante post prices, no need to make things even riskier with ante post doubles!

I dont really agree with that, in the novice races especially they will shorten up considerably, its currently 6/1 the field in the Sunalliance Hurdle (i refuse to call it any different) and the Triumph, there is some value to be had there as the fav in both races will be far shorter.

as expected Rite of Passage is entered in both the Supreme & the Neptune. Betting indicates the longer race is his target but anything can happen especially if Dunguib were to go for the champion

I know what you mean, but it really doesn't matter what happens to the price of the favourite unless that's the one you fancied. I remember backing Captain Cee Bee ante post for the Supreme Novice at 8-1, didn't run again before Cheltenham, could have easily backed him the morning of the race at 12-1. Luckily he won anyway, so only had to put up with the moral loss.

The Novice races usually have a steamer either the day before or the morning of the race. So a few others may well bigger the day of the race for no apparent reason.
