Hi, my Dad needs a codec to play flims from his exrternal hard drive on windows media player. I have no idea what a codec is. I googled it, and went to download it, and each time i clicked download it would bring me to another site and so on... Has anyone got a link for one please? For vista.

    Thanks:D

You forget to tell us which codec he needs. If it's relatively common it'll be in the K-Lite codec pack.

It would probably be easiest for your father to download VLC < http://videolan.org/vlc >
Codec packs and alternative media players will perform better in some cases but VLC is very capable at playing a plethora of formats and requires the least setup, so I would recommend it for someone unfamiliar with computers.

Klite is the way to go. You'll never be asked for a CODEC again.
