    Hey all,

I'm writing this on behalf of my brother, who found out today that his weekly payment will now be 19.50 per week.

I was just wondering if there is anything he can do at all to try and get more money per week? He's tried looking for a job all over but has had no luck. He's still looking for work but it's looking unlikely.

FAS courses no longer give the full rate and instead only equal the amount given by SW (so if he did a FAS course he'd still nly get 19 euro, plus he'd have to pay for travel, food, etc.).

He's looking into Mortgage Interest Relief.

Notes about him; He's married, a qualified cabinet maker and was self-employed for a few months in 2007/2008.

All of the weekly bills now will obviously be on his wife's shoulders, and even with her income included, they literally can not "make ends meet".

Anyone got any idea of anything at all he could look into here that might be of benefit. Aside from Back To Education (which I don't think he qualifies for) I can't think of anything at all.

Just a couple of things which may help a little bit:

If they have children, they could look into whether they qualify for FIS.

If they are experiencing hardship they should contact their CWO (community welfare officer) at their local heath board.

They should apply for a medical card, or at the very least a GP card and they should give the Husband's tax credits to his wife.

    Hey Beach,

They don't have kids, and I don't see how contacting their CWO could help, unless they actually have something they can claim for? I doubt a sob story will get them anywhere..?

I also don't see how a medical card could help out. I understand these are things that they should look at, but I think it's just a money issue at the moment (or lack thereof).
