    Folks,

Anyone know any good links for information on kids cycling (guides on distance, setup on bike and so on) .. my 11 year old son driving me mad to start cycling on the road and just not sure how far/fast and bike setup for him .....

Also any tips on getting him started on a road bike on the road ? (he rides mountain and bmx bikes at the moment but not over distance)

any links or comments? Thanks !

    where about are you?
join a club, usually they have much shorter spins for underage riders from 10yrs. They race that young and younger too!
Getting in with a club means they will be in a group of similar age and ability and the group leader usually alot older will help in getting them up to speed as long as they're interested.

But at that age I was going off on my own up mountains on my brothers mountain bike :p

My 11 year old manages quite long spins (30km-ish)with me on one of these-

Bit expensive but streets ahead (literally) of the heavy, fat tyred usual kids offerings.

I made my girl practise one handed cycling and looking over her shoulder before we went on the road.

High viz vest a must I think.

I think being on the road has done her confidence a lot of good. Kids enjoy the responsibility and are often more sensible than we give them credit for imo.
