    Hey all,

Am just looking at replacing my existing commuter bike (14year old mountain bike) as it has seen better days!

Anyway after looking in a load of bike shops around Dublin and searching extensively online I spotted this bike which is top of my list at the moment:

    http://www.discovercycling.com/bikes/bikes-trekking/claud-butler-explorer-100-mens.html

Just wondering what people think of it; components wise / will it stand the test of time etc??

I will be using it mainly for getting to and from work (12km round trip) and probably cycling around the city at weekends. Also I will be leaving it parked up in city centre at times so for this reason I am only willing to spend a max of €300 to minimise my loss if it does get stolen.

    All opinions appreciated. Thanks!

It looks fine, cheap and cheerful. You will probably want to add mudguards. Also consider if buying it online can you maintain it yourself. For a cheap bike like that you can be better off getting it from your local bike shop for the backup service.

Your right, I will definitely add mudguards to it and can do most the maintenance on it myself. All the hybrids I looked at in local bike shops were quite pricey, generally starting at around €400 to €450 with the average price around €700 to €800 I would say. Think it is worth buying online for the cost saving.

Just be careful with shipping, it can be very expensive from the UK, well over £100 in some cases. Those lot look very reasonable, it appears to be £4.95.

Worth having a look on CRC - free delivery to Ireland and both cheaper options (if they fit) and at the same price a GT which would be better than the Claud Butler IMHO.

Good point, will keep eye on delivery charges. Actually didn't even check the shipping cost for that site but created an account there and it comes out as you said £4.95 after putting in country as Ireland. Seems crazy cheap! Bike would come in at roughly €265 I reckon!

Thanks for the reply. Had a look at CRC and there wasn't much jumping out at me. That GT does look like a nice bike though but it is only available in large which would be too big for me! Any other alternatives?? Thanks
