I think I've managed to play most of them and was just interested in peoples opinions, is there a golf hole that stands out as being particularily good taking into account difficulty/setting etc. I've picked Galway as I'm a tribesman and play most my golf around Galway. Might be an idea to do it county by county. Think it would interesting, like to hear opinions.

hmmm tough one cause to be honest there are not a lot of GREAT courses in Galway. Good holes I reckon in Co. Galway are the 17th at Portumna, the 12th in Athenry before they decided to cut down a lot of trees now not so good. 14th in Galway has pretty class views over the bay and maybe the 13th and 14th in Ballconnely (Connemara). But I am struggling to think of any others. I have played every course in Galway except Galway Bay since they decided to improve the layout. Just my 2 cents:)

The 14th at Ballyconneely is the stand out hole, along with the par thee 13th. I'd put these at the top of the list.

    Portumna's a peach, with 5, 6, 16 and 17 all worth a mention

There are some good holes at Gort (5, 6 and 10), Athenry (the side by side par threes, 3 and 12) and I like the 10th and 16th at Bearna.

The 12th at Galway Bay is their Index 1 and it's a beauty.

17th in Portumna defo up there alright.

Have always taught 4th in Galway (Salthill) is a strong hole. Always happy to make par there.

The 16th in Cregmore is a nice one into the wind as well.

Really interested to see what the new Galway Bay is like, the old index one there was a nice hole.

Seeing as i've just seen your post has that hole remained the same? Have they changed much with the course altogether?

I don't know what it was like before. I visited in May/June 2008 when the course was still closed to visitors. I've heard there were a lot of changes. Here are some photos that might answer your questions:

There's some very good holes on Bearna - a very good test IMO. Plus the spongy ground is a very unusual experience !!

Connemara Isles has a hole that requires a testy drive
    front and back:o

The 13th in Ballyconneely is probally the one for me, theres also a lovely par three in Conn Isles where you are teeing off from a height with the inlet at the side of the green I think its the 6th. There are some really nice courses in Galway but there is an absence of a many particularily good individual holes. it wasnt my intention to bring this up. If it was to be expanded to Connacht with the likes of Carne, enniscrone, strandhill, westport and Ballinrobe etc there are some excellent holes, Mayo/sligo courses do seem to be well ahead of Galway.

i think the 17th in portumna is the best matchplay golf hole in connacht.
The last 3 holes there anything can happen - i know as i have been both the victim and the beneficiary.
