    Hi All,

I was hoping someone might be able to tell me of a good reputable garage, that is very reasonable, where I could get a service done for a 04 BMW 316 i ES? i'm living near Maynooth.
Just a couple of issues with the car of late, it's a bit jumpy when driving, plus the brake and the emission lights are constantly lit up on the dash. Also, it sems to slip when going around any long bend (eg a roundabout), even when going very slow.
Hope these probs nothing too serious?
Any ideas what I could roughly expect to pay?

Many thanks folks and looking forward to your reply.

    Kind Regards.

    Hi,

Here's a link with some details.

I can personally recommend Conlan's main dealership in Rathangan. They're excellent but relatively expensive.

Well i was quoted 400 for an oil service on my 318is from main dealer.. Then up to 700 for full service.. That was just sparks, filters, oil and various other fluids..

Brake light is prob worn pads..
Emissions sensor.. Hmm could be looking at a cat or PCV valve.. or just faulty sensor.. Get it to a garage anyway and put it on a diagnostic..

Are front wheels slipping or is the back stepping out?? How is your tyre depth? Have you got your ASC turned off?

I would not leave the car in the condition its in! I would bring it to a goo mechanic, get a run down of what needs to be done. And then price the work getting a quote of two from down south and up north. The brake light on is probably just the pads, the EML could PCV valve, Air mass meter or CAT. How are the threads on tyres? I would recommend AC Car Sales or Chelmsford motors, both specialise in BMW's and have been excellent any time i have had to deal with them.

Thanks to BMW's new value initiative, it should be from €143 - link

Are you serious or is this a joke?
Parts are about 80 to max 100 Euro (fully synthetic oil) and the labour is about 30 minutes. How they calculated the labour to make the bill of 400 ???

You have to factor in a few additional things into that €400 price:
    - Provision of courtesy car
    - Coffee & Danish while you wait to collect your car
    - Immculate waiting room/show room
    - Service agent that will contact you
    - The very latest equipment available used on car used by trained BMW technicians
    - "Oil Service" also includes a checklist of various items (Google for exact list)

I'm not saying it is the right way to go for your service & the most important part of all the above is the service & checklist.
Any competent mechanic could do the service without all the frilly extras but BMW (& other manufacturers) choose to offer the service this way.
I'm not defending it, far from it (I do my own servicing) but best to paint the full picture.

The prices down here are ridiculous. I love BMW's but it breaks my heart every time I have to go near a southern BMW dealer.

The value service does look a bit better - but don't you know you'll get the call:

I'm sorry Mr. X but the (insert expensive car part here) looks worn, I think you'd be well advised to replace it.

Okay, and how much will that knock me back?

€300 plus the VAT (the price they tried to charge me for one run-flat, which I subsequently got for £150 in a Northern BMW dealer 3 months later).

Are you ******* insane? I'll take the car as it is thanks....

You'll at least cut the price in half by going up north. I needed to bottom arms a few weeks ago. €475 each down here versus £90 up the north. Now if someone can explain that to me then please do!!

David Prentice in Omagh - the service you deserve!!

    No connection...
