The last time I flew to Katowice, I was in a bit of a hurry and so booked transfer to Kraków with WizzAir's partner company. It was very fast and hassle-free but certianly not the cheapest option.

According to the airport's website (which oddly seems to be in Polish only), http://www.matuszek.com.pl/ run buses between Katowice airport and Kraków city. You can check the price on their website. To travel by train, you would need to take the local bus into town (very cheap) and then the train from there. See http://www.pkp.pl/ for schedules and prices.

There are private buses runing from Katowice to Krakow. You can book a seat on- line: http://grey.turystyka.com.pl/~wizzair/ Price is 11 euro for single or 22 for return ticket. If you need any help with translating give me a show as I am a polish fella :)You can also buy a ticket on spot but in that case it cost 25 and 50 euro.

@Fanthomas: I think that is the service I used myself a few years ago. Back then, my friend and I were the only ones who had happened to book transfer and so we got our own minibus. The driver was rather mad, speeding all the way and getting us to Kraków in a very short time. It was great fun.

The booking website, by the way, has a language selection at the top. It works perfectly well in English :).

I stayed at the Grand Hotel Kraków and liked it a lot. It is five stars and right in the center.
