Honeymoon - SE Asia 3 Weeks Recommendations?

My intended is Chinese and as such its hard for us to go anywhere visa wise except SE Asia where its easy for a Chinese citizen to visit.

After the wedding in China we will have about three weeks to go on honeymoon. I have been to Malaysia before (Penang, Langkawi and KL) and really loved the culture and especially the food there so was kind of thinking of maybe spending a week in Malaysia, maybe somewhere new there? (we will be flying Air Asia so needs to be within reach of KL or Penang I suppose).

After that was thinking of visiting Thailand. I have heard that Thailand is a bit of a Costa Del Sol type place, which frankly doesn't appeal, but of course there must be some nice areas there off the main beaten track to enjoy local culture. I'd love to see Cambodia or Laos as well but obviously three weeks isn't enough for all that.

Main criteria - relaxing, stress-free and not too touristy in a south of Spain way.

    All recommendations hugely appreciated!
We will probably be getting married this Autumn (a "lucky " date will be decided by her mother over the Chinese new year festival when I'm back there in a couple of weeks).

    Thanks :)

    Hi Supercell,

myself and OH stayed in a small thai village called Thong Nai Pan Noi on Ko Pha Ngan. For us this was an amazing place to chill out, so relaxed with a mix of couples, relaxed backpackers and locals. we always said that this would be a great place for a honeymoon. To see pics of the beach there, its the ultimate paradise. Its does ofcourse cater for the western traveler but they don't shove it in your face. Its on the opposite side of the island to where the full moon party takes place so if you're not into that scene then you won't be bothered by it, however there are taxi boats that do take you. The good thing about this place is that there is some amazing high-end boutique resorts mixed with well kept backpacker resorts. people from all walks of life are mixing and gives the place a good vibe. theres usually a good atmosphere in most of the beach side bars and you have a great selection between livelier to more chilled out.

I googled some of the high-end resorts, these were so amazing:

Like i said, the cheaper options are there, and its basic but very respectable for the price.the place we stayed had just been refurbed.

if you have any other questions then no problem, can't give you any other advice really from other parts of thailand, we liked the thong nai so much we went back a second time before going home!
