Just wondering why boards do not allow people to delete their accounts!? I know it may be to maintain the quality of previous threads, but could
you not offer a service whereby the username is deleted but the post remains!? Or maybe the name changes to deleteruser1, deleteduser2 etc...

Can you explain the official policy on this to me!? I don't want to delete mine, but it does annoy me that I'm not given the option!

It is precisely as you say, to preserve the integrity of the threads that the poster has already posted on. A namechange would only be a partial success as any posts by that person that are quoted by someone else will still show the original username. Anything more technical such as removing the username everywhere would probably require hacks by Ross or Conor, and there's no guarantee that they wouldn't adversely impact on the stability of the system, so that would need a lot of testing time first, which they don't have an abundance of.
