Am just thinking of places to go on holidays this year. I have always been keen to go to Dubrovnik as I've seen pictures and it looks beautiful.

Am not really a beach/pool kind of person, so am shying away from the 'package' idea and want to go independently.

So am just wondering, Dubrovnik City itself (aside from the beach, resorts etc), now much is there to see/do? How long woud you go there for, would four days be enough? What's the food like?

    Any information/suggestions greatly appreciated.

having spent a week there once, we left saying it was an ideal long weekend spot. There are a few day and half day trips - Mostar, and a few other places.

    Lovely spot.

Yo upcork.. I spent a few days in Dubrovnik as part of a Eurpoean tour in 2006, and I found it to be a disappointment. The weather was fine apart from one day when it rained like it was monsoon season, in July. The old town is historically very interesting, but 1 day covers that. Prices aren't that cheap, bit less than here... The food is on the whole poor, the steaks are filthy and seafood is not half as good as you'd expect from a coastal resort. 4 days are plenty if you insist on going. There are towns to visit on the bus for day trips like Srebernicia that are interesting to see since the war. I didn't find the people that friendly either, it just felt like we always had to be on our guard against being ripped off.

I am sure there will be people that will reply with very positive tales from there, it maybe great for families etc. But I wouldn't ever reccommend anyone to go there when there are much better destinations around Europe, and like Dubrovnik are on direct flight paths from Dublin. Good luck with your choice...
