Windscreen repair

    Hi folks,

I've been driving down M1 on Saturday when my windscreen suddenly imploded! No sign of damage from the outside or the inside (feels flat) but the inside has a heart-shaped crack. Maybe I can get a few million for it on eBay from religious freaks? :)

More seriously, I want to get this repaired, and since there's no outside damage I figure I'm looking for a replacement, rather than just a repair job.

Can anyone recommend a place in Dublin? It's a Nisan Micra, 96. I believe my insurance will cover it, but regardless, I can't drive it like this, I'm afraid it will shatter while driving.

    Autoglass?

I used Autoglass a couple of months ago when I noticed a crack in my windscreen. I have to say they were excellent. They came to the office and fitted it in less than half an hour.

If you're putting in through insurance, you will need to contact them first to get a claim number before Autoglass can replace it.

    Ah, didn't know that. Thanks!

Did autoglass replace the whole windscreen? I thought they just specialised in filling the chips in the glass?

Ah I knew their advert would do that but nobody listened to me.

    They do both.

just go for replacement. got a chip repaired lately. looks the same as before hand. It probably is stronger but the chip is annoying to look at.

Well, I'm not happy with them. Had a brick thrown through my car window yesterday evening. They said they'd ring me by 9.30am and have it done by 10am. I'm still waiting and now it's another hour to wait. That's just not good enough. I told work I'd be in by 10.30, now I won't get there till 1pm.

The other tradesmen I had in this week both said they'd arrive between 9 and 10 - one arrived at 8.50, and the other at 9.10.

I forgot to post back. I've had autoglass replace the windscreen, my insurance put me through to them directly. It ended up easier to get them to replace it while I'm in work.

I got a call off them in the morning, they came roughly around the time they said they would (I can't remember if they were late but it doesn't matter, I was in work anyway). It does take about two hours to get it replaced, and then you shouldn't drive for another two hours until the seals have cured.

So don't expect to get it done in half an hour and then drive to work.

I had to ring them back because the rear-view mirror wasn't fitting 100%, there was a bit of a give and it was shaking on the motorway. They sent someone over to me the next day and fixed it. I'm very happy with them.

Depends - they were able to process the entire thing for me on Allianz, didn't talk to them at all myself.
