    Two genuine bargains there

Was tempted by the tv but all this sudden talk of LED and 3D sets has put me off at the moment..

Picked up one of these last weekend. Very happy with the TV. Couldn't find it cheaper in any store or online so it seems to be a very good deal

Looks like it's only Mpeg2 on DTT which won't be much use here, anyone able to confirm??

Would that make any difference if it was being used with a SKY HD Box or a Blu-ray player?:confused:

No as Mpeg4 tuner is used to get Irish digital stations when analogue is finally turned off. Since you already have Sky I don't see a reason why you would want access to DTT. I asked in DID to confirm whether it had an mpeg4 tuner and they said it did. Don't have any bunny ears so I can't confirm.

No MPEG4 it seems.... Still, Freesat HD built in so would you be bothered with RTE and TV3? Plus if you have NTL / Sky etc it doesn't matter, chances are you'll never use the tuner at all!

I have a 40W2000 and it's only MPEG2 also, but got a CAM Module which decodes the MPEG4 stream, so it's not the end of the world, you can always do that if you really want Irish DTT.

    Hi
I also have a 40W2000...What is a CAM module? Where do I get it done? How much would this cost me?

    Thanks

Conditional Access Module. Pay TV Providers use them, and then there smartcard slots into it....

    Lots of info here....

I bought mine (not the one shown here, mine must be an old model and cost nearly twice this price!) from this shop...

Do more research before buying as I'm not 100% sure this will work. Model number of mine (from invoice I just found) is "Viaccess NP4" MPEG2+MPEG4 (HDTV) * Pocket * CAM"

Actually... Just Googled it.... This is what I have

RTÉ News Now is quite handy I think.

Think the point being made was, if you subscribe to Sky, RTE 1 and 2 are part of the package, so you'd have no need to view them on DTT, 'cos you get them digitally anyway, so makes no odds when they switch the analogue off.

EDIT: Sorry Minstrel, just read up on DTT (haven't watched it in a while) Seems RTE News Now is a new channel... Apologies :)

Maybe check the above forum link for updates and discussion on DTT etc, keep this for the bargains! (Which this TV is IMHO, with or without MPEG4!) If you want a 1080p HD TV, the Bravia is great! Never looked back since I got mine.

Also, @Pink16, do you feel a bit sick looking at this thread? 2.5 years ago, my TV was €2000. Now the updated, bigger, newer, more shiny one with a satellite receiver built in is less than half the price :( I hate technological advances!

Ok just checked there and got all five digital stations and some radio stations with bunny ears so this TV does indeed have mpeg4 tuner.

I would think it is mpeg4. As always though, check before buying.

Well there you go, fran got in before me!!

This set is definitely mpeg4, all of the "W" "V" and "Z" ranges of sonys 2009 range have mpeg4 tuners and are compatible with the new digital MHEG5 text aswell. Buy with confidence, this tv, with the integrated Freesat HD tuner and mpeg4 tuner has everything for the best in free digital tv at the moment! :)

Heres a review for the 40V5500, same tv just in 40" and no freesat tuner. Apparently motion is alright for a set without 100Hz, as i knoiw the lack of it is a worry for a set of that size.

Did you buy it online? If so you have a cooling off period and are entitled to cancel the order.

The KDL46W5810 can be had for €300 extra,
the W panel is worth the extra few bob, just my opinion.

Folks, this is an excellent model from Sony, one of the best at upscaling standard definition television (which represents 96% of what's available)

Agree with above, this is good value for that TV model. Didn't know Sony were releasing any of the Freesat TVs here so to be able to pick one up locally is an added bonus.

A bit too big for my living room though, so would be hard to justify the upgrade to my wife! :)
