I've never hired in Val, sorry, but my experience is that anywhere right beside the piste will charge a lot more than places where you have to walk.

When you get to your hotel/chalet why not ask where the best deals are? Sometimes you can get something off for staying locally. Also, it's worth producing any membership card you might have (Ski Club of Ireland, Ski Club of Great Britain, even An Oige) and asking if you can have a discount with it.

try this email, I have ordered off them, susan, service@snowberry-valdisere.com their website is a good guide http://www.snowberry-valdisere.com and they seem to be very sound and have prices and gear to suit all levels...

also try the val d'isere tourist site, good list of every shop www.valdisere.com/

Always ask for a discount off the list price, especially if you are a group. You should be able to get up to 20%. Try and use an independent store, as opposed to an Inter Sport or Sport 2000. Their rates are as good, and the service usually better, and they are usually local owners.
