stem dilemma

think my stem is a bit low by about an inch, problem is i dont think i can raise it any more as if i take the stem cap off the steerer tube of the forks is right to the top of the existing stem. if i raise it to the required length the steerer tube will sit about half way up the stem. does this mean the only solution is new forks? i dont want to get riser handlebars as i prefer the flat bar control.any ideas??:(

p.s well done to boards for sorting out the hacking incident.!

Usually stems have a certain amount of offset measured in degrees from being perpendicular to the steerer. The most common is 6 degrees and hopefully it is a reversable stem so if it is already in the -6 position you can flip it around and make it a +6 riser stem. If you have it set up like this already, you can get 17 degree stems like I have on one of my bikes to lower the bars but you can get one to raise your bars. After that, the only thing I can think of it the adjustable stems followed by a new fork! Hope this helps ;)

Another option is a stem riser:- http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/product-Unbranded-Ahead-Stem-Raiser-for-1-1-8-Inch-to-1-1-8-Inch-3780.htm then you keep your original stem.
