Talk of nuclear related stuff re The Road prompted me to start this thread. It will be interesting to see this take on the absolutely excellent BBC series from the 80s: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090424/

So the story is relocated from Britain to the States (I'm not a Gibson fan personally but still really looking forward to it - hope it won't be a Payback II) and Ray Winston takes on the role originally played by American actor Joe Don Baker.

Afraid to say I've never seen the show, Im young :o

Not a major fan of Gibson, although Signs was a good film. From the trailer, it looks interesting. This directpr did Casino Royale so hopefully it'll be good.

I didn't see the TV show first time 'round either - invest in the DVD if you can.

It'll be some ridiculous man against the men paranoid melodrama with a big bang bang ending :(

The original BBC miniseries was absolutely fantastic! The trailer of the new version looks more like your generic action movie and I'm not encouraged by that. But no doubt I'll go and see it anyway!

Was looking forward to this, not so much for Gibson, but really like Martin Campbell and was looking forward to seeing him do something more serious (haven't seen the original series, but have seen the
    daughter dildo kissing clip o_0
    - I'm assuming that's not going to be in the remake)

But then I read that they're re-shooting it to make it more action orientated and now I'm afraid it's going to be like this:

All of my fears very well articulated - didn't want to say anything like that though for fear of looking like I've made up my mind before seeing it, but yeah, it really does have a ring of Payback/Ransom to it... and yep, I wondered how they'd handle that bit you mentioned, Chad ghostal. :)
Makes sense it would be omitted - not something old Mel would approve of with his christian morals and whatnot. :pac:

Hopefully this will be Mels Gran Torino, and what's wrong with Payback II?
    Payback was cool and fun!

Its style is not really suited to the message Edge of Darkness is trying to convey though...

I was one of the lucky ones to have seen the series back in the 1980's and I've owned the DVDs since they came out, I'd be terrified that they would make this masterful piece of tv history into an action film which to me would be sacrilege.

I've not seen it yet but will be going.

Mel Gibson is always at his best when he's lost something, be it his mind, wife, dignity, etc. Loss seems to bring out the best in him and I can firmly say that I thoroughly enjoyed the film. It's not a patch on the original but condensing over 6 hours down so much is bound to affect the story.

I must watch the series. Have had it sitting here for a couple of months.

Martin Campbell directed the original didn't he?

Reads like a good episode of The Sweeney.

    In America, but.

Got to see this tonight and I wasn't impressed.

The movie was good for the most part, certainly wasn't the 'Taken' clone that I was expecting it to be.
I did find however, that the conspiracy was a little over the top and that the plot was a little convoluted and wonder if Ray Winstones character was supposed to be making a tongue in cheek remark about this at the end.
The plot felt like the movie might have gone through a few re-writes and suffered as a result.

Oh, and meant to say, Winstones character really saved this film for me.

Agree about Winstones character, but the rest of the film was predictable,
boring and because it was originally a mini series that was 6 hours long it suffered badly from the re-write.

Bottom line, i wouldnt recommend it.

i thought it was pretty good but it was overly violent for the sake of it.

One of the worst films I've seen in a long time.

Pathetic, over-acting by Gibson and a crap screenplay. It got 55% on RT. Should be at around 5%.

Saw this with the girl last night :o

I know I'll get slated for this, but I enjoyed it. OK it wasn't Oscar winning stuff but it was watchable.

Mel Gisbon was very one-dimensional but tbh what do you expect. I liked Ray Winstone in it.

The action scenes and any shootings were not ott.
Where the daughter gets shot or when he's taking on the broadmoor guys

I'd go deeper only no-one else liked it :p
