Bought one for Christmas and so far I'm not particularly impressed..

I cant seem to get a good sound from it.. It usually sounds fairly crap :(

Anyone got any tips on getting a good sound from it?

Headphones connected directly to the POD. It's nothing to do with my hardware (as far as I know)

From what I can tell it's the software.. I cant seem to get a decent tone from it..

pod is going to give you out what you put in - plus a subtle added harshness and brightness due to its low quality conversion.

as long as you dont overload the input - you should get a pretty good representation of what you are putting in ( ie a guitar ) .

it tends to sound brash and in your face on headphones using a pOD

Well I've got a good quality lead.. A pretty good guitar ( ESP LTD AX50 )

It's just that I suck at setting tone on the amps :D I'm a noob when it comes to technical things with guitar..

you might want to try the instrument forum for tips on guitar tone.
to broad a subject for this one.

but id choose one amp , with no effects on it and muck around with that for a while.
i assume your are in to metal - so try one of the jcm800 amp sims and mess with that
