Compliance

    Hi,

I'm contemplating a move into compliance at the minute.

With things the way they are currently, obviously it will be tough to get into without experience. So I am thinking that a relevant qualification may be the best way to get a foot in the door.

Does anyone know what the best qualification would be? Is there anyone here who works in compliance and would recommend it?

Is Compliance a role that is worth getting into in your opinion??

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

I know this isn't much help to you at the moment but the only people I know who have gotten into compliance seem to have either been with a company for awhile and therefore know their internal structures/policies and then get promoted/fall into compliance. Or they've previously worked in a compliance role for another company. I'm not really sure what qualification you could get that would help you to start in this role.

I could be completly off the mark here! but that's my two cents! Hopefully someone else might have more favourible information that will help you ;)

Presume you mean compliance in the context of financial services. The Institute of Bankers run a Certificate and Diploma in Compliance in conjunction with the ACOI (Association of Compliance Officers of Ireland).

Many compliance officers nowadays (particularly in the larger asset management co's/banks, ins etc.) would typically have accountancy qualifications to go along with this, you'd be in a great position if you had these. Relevant experience of course is important too.

Qualified Financial Advisor diploma would be beneficial also.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks guys.

I have the QFA Diploma and a degree so I suppose thats a start.

Might look into the Institute of Bankers course. It seems that experience is the most valuable aspect of it all though.

    Hi,
Wonder if I could join in? I have ACII and a Business Degree. Was looking at ACOI diploma too. Has anyone done this? How much effort is involved and how are the FS industry viewing it? It will take two years so want to be sure its worth it! Thanks in advance.

Sure you can!! Have not done it myself (I have the QFA) but I know some guys here in work that have. First two modules are very easy, not sure about the other two. I can't imagine the course being all that difficult. If you already work in a compliance role, I'd imagine you'd stroll through it!

In my job I deal a lot with different compliance officers and managers who work in investment firms. I have yet to deal with one who has the ACOI. Most of them have ACCA, Barrister, Solicitor, Legal, Degree and QFA qualifications.

I'm not sure as to how credible the ACOI course is viewed. Maybe someone could provide feedback in this regard?

Anyway, best of luck with whatever you decide.

    Hello!

Does anyone have a copy of the ACOI study material for certificate/diploma? I'd really like to look at the content of the course.

I need a copy of the the PDC 1 Compliance ACOI manual (Compliance and Regulatory Structure)!

    Thanks for any help everyone.

    Vasco
