Nerdstock: 9 Lessons and Carols for Godless People

A secular entertainment show celebrating Christmas, recorded at the Hammersmith Apollo in London in December. Hosted by Robin Ince, who features alongside fellow comedians Mark Steel and Shappi Khorsandi, scientists Brian Cox and Simon Singh, and writer of The God Delusion Richard Dawkins, as well as musicians and performers from the UK and beyond.

On BBC4 at the moment with an hour to run. The comedian just on was a hoot!

Are those 'godless people' just folk who view life differently from yourself?

You did notice the show is called "Lessons and Carols for Godless People", right? :)

Saw the second half of it.

My favourite act was Shappi Khorsandi. I liked her when I thought she was a muslim. Now it turns out she is a non-believer. :D

Darn,Id liked to have seen this!

Did anyone watch 'The Bible:The History - Creation' with Harold Jacobson on Channel 4 this evening? Or perhaps It should have been renamed the atheist bashing programme!

The first 15mins was excellent when Jacobson explained how the creation story was from a mix of ancient myths. The next 45mins then was just ridiculing those who believe in science over creation.
He only interviewed one atheist who was the most convincing and practical out of all those he spoke. One moral philospher said that believing in a God was a lot more nuitrious and healthy then not believing in a divine maker. It was just so incredibly biased, with the generalisations about atheists completely turning the whole programmme into a farce. Atheists were potrayed as cold, heartless people with blind faith in science compared to happy, soulful religious who believed in loving man in the sky.

His conclusions at the end was that we all need the creation story to make us feel human and to give us direction,As well as that its a wonderful piece of literature and makes us feel good about ourselves?!
Its this sort of flippant attitude that completely turned me of religion. I do not need to believe in a God making the earth in 6 days to give me direction!

Im quite suprised at Channel 4 as usually there documentarys are pretty good.

    Wow, that sounds pretty horrendous...

I saw it on the TV guide but decided I didn't care much about the history of the Bible so gave it a miss

    Sounds pretty nasty though

Perhaps they're all as shoddy as this one except that this time you just disagreed with the view?

Even for the theist like me it was a real blast: fast moving, witty, sharp, entertaining, insightful at times. It thrashed the usual complement of religious strawmen of course - but was fun for all that, done as it was, extremely well.
