Why was Bosco killed, scrapped, whatever?

Ah Bosco. I remember Bosco on the television. I always felt that the people who made it must have been on some illegal substance. But I do remember as a kid being freaked out by the title seqeunce (which was really wierd) and the music you could never get out of your head.


What happened to Bosco? Why was it scrapped? What happened to those two stange presenters? Who was Bosco? Was it that guy who does Dustin? :eek:

I was at an episode of the Panel and Bosco (voiced by Andrew Maxwell) was used as entertainment while we waited for it to start (one of the Panelists was running late ). We were told that it couldn't be shown on TV because RTE don't own the rights to Bosco and are too cheap to pay for them

He was stolen at a UCD students convention in 1996 and supposedly taken around the world with photos of him taken at the Sydney Opera House, though these photos may have been doctored. Meteor re-used the concept in advertising back in 2004 where a garden gnome was stolen and brought around the country.

He was probably scrapped because he was so outdated. Shur they've done away with the traditional Den now as well. You'd rarely see Dustin/Soky/Zuppy etc. etc. Pity, but kids today would probably just find them annoying.

One thing this thread has reminded me of is how good the Panel used to be, and how sh*te it is now.

If anyone has the latest Gift Grub album, there is a very funny outtake on the bonus disc of Mario Rosenstock and Paula Lambert rehearsing the Gift Bosco sketch.

Darragh (from Boards) did an interview with Paula last year. Its a good read, and covers lots of the myths and legends.

It was the actual puppet they were using, perhaps it's different for just an image? Colin Murphy definitely said that though cause I remember thinking it was a bit odd

my father has been working as a courier for many years and has made a friend.who i am not naming.
he was to collect bosco to be dropped of at rte best thing was he knew he had bosco..
then it got taken haha...


i do not know why rte never replaced it but there was rewards out for him a fare bit.
So if you never liked bosco we owe that man a great big thank you..
this person was very close to my family and has not been seen in over 5 years.... and one day i will seee him and show him alll the messgaes....
