Just wondering does anyone know what the term "Speaking out of school mean? in a work related sense.

A friend of mine had a work appraisal review and this term was mentioned to him by his reviewer.

He did not understand the term and was asked to keep this in mind.

    Any takers?

your friend probably has discussed some relatively sensitive / confidential information with others in the office. Generally that quote is used when someone is discussing stuff with people they shouldn't be.

That's what I would understand the phrase to mean as well. It's just a slightly different wording of the phrase "Telling tales out of school". Or in plain English, your friend would want to watch what they're saying and who they're saying it to.
