Right, I've just had to do an emergency format of my machine, total wipe, lost all music files etc and obviously itunes and all that stuff.

Is there a way I can connect my ipod back to my pc without wiping it? I dont want to go through the hours and hours of re-ripping every cd i own, re labeling, etc, etc, etc if I don't have to.

Is there a way I can just hook it up as I would have pre-format and put more music on it, edit play lists etc?

For the mac there is iPod ripping software that pulls the songs off the iPod. There are also PC alternatives that will copy your songs.

Haven't used any of the above (found on Google) but there are free versions of similar apps out there.

Right... but can I just load itunes liek i would have before and not have to worry about it wiping my ipod or do i just use that programe instead of itunes?

You will need to rip the songs to a folder on your computer and then put them back into iTunes unless one of those apps does it automatically.

As soon as they are copied from your iPod using a suitable app you can use/sync them again in iTunes.
