Just done the allergy test. Do I really need to leave it 48 hours before dying hair?

Yeah you should wait the 48 hours to see i you have a reaction to the dye. Once you've done it though when you are re-dying your hair you wont have to wait the 48 hrs. :D

I've never done it! If you're not usually allergic or sensitive to beauty products then think you're grand, but if you are, obviously, the patch test would be the sensible thing to do.

I've never bothered before either, but it is a different brand so I thought I ought to. Wanted to get hair sorted for tonight.... surely if I was allegic it would show up in 5 or 6 hours?

To be honest I wouldn't take the chance.

I always do the allergy test by dying my hair, and if nothing happens, then I'm not allergic, plus my hair is already dyed :P

I've never done it and no salon I have ever been to has ever done it on me.

    Wrong, wrong, wrong.

You can become allergic to ingredients in hair dyes at any time. Aside from this, the formulation can change and a new ingredient added that you might be highly allergic to.

I admit I am a bit lazy and don't do the patch test every time (mostly because I have to do my roots every 4 weeks :( ) but I always use the same brand and do the test at least twice a year.

If you're new to hair dye or using a new brand, DEFINITELY do the test.

    Thanks for the responses.

I did my hair yesterday evening, and it turned out fine. So yes, really should do the patch test proper and all that, its just hard to remember you have to leave it for so long!
