Indicator problem

    Hi all,

My left indicator has stopped self canceling and after taking it to a garage the mechanic thinks the whole indicator stalk will need to be replaced. After getting the quote its turning out to be quite pricey to fix.

He says he needs to take the steering wheel and airbag off in order to fit a new one... around 250 all in.

Could it be something more simple than replacing the whole thing? I presumed it was just a faulty connection or a fuse. Every other function on the stalk works perfectly.

I'm driving an 02 VW Polo

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers

Common enough fault on Passats. Try taking off the cover.
Get a view of the indicator contacts and use a clean cloth
and WD40 to clean them. Might just do the job.

If you cant quite get in at them use a long thin screwdriver
and cloth to gently clean them.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll give that a shot.

Anyone had much experience taking the cover off? Is it easy enough to do?
