    Hi Eoin,
I spent Christmas 2007 there and enjoyed the skiiing. Forget name of ski school I used but they had blue uniform; instructor was good and was friendly and group I was in had a good mix of people - it was mainly Irish.
It was very quiet at night and the busiest bar, especially for younger people was near to the slopes - cant think of night, but you probably cant miss it ! I might go back again some time.
    Enjoy.

Its a great little spot. I think the pub at the bottom of the slopes is called maxi's!

Thanks guys. Is there a ski/board shop there where you can buy helmets, knee pads, wrist guards ... gonna wait till we get there to see if we want them.

Just google ' St Johann in Tirol ski shop'
Look up google earth to get your bearings and see where your accomodation is relative to slopes if you like as well.

i do know it very well. I've been there every year for the last seven and goign again next month. There is an "intersport" at the bottom of the slopes which is pretty good, dunno about price wise. If you want to buy there is a massive eurospar in the town centre, like a dunnes department in a blanch/pavillions shopping centre. it caters better for all sports, and specifically ski sports. also cheep drink in the supermarket. 11.99 for jagermeister,700ml. i guarantee that the price won't go up by much more than that.

Had great craic here when I went. Possibly going back in Feb but with a group.

Has anyone ever booked any self catering accommodation or rented a house out there?

I lived in St Jo for 3 years and it is a great spot. Skiing a little bit limited but if you use your Schneewinkle pass and go over to Waidring and Fieberbrunn then there is lots more to keep you occupied.

There is a big Hervis upstairs in the Spar on the main st and this will have everything you need. Also a few smaller sports shops too.

Visit Max`s, Bunnies, The Baren and the nightclub on the main st (used to be called Scala) for drinks.

For food then Masiancos on the main street is a winner and also there was an Italian on the main st opposite the Spar which was also great.

    Hey flikflak,

I was in St Johann last year to learn boarding and loved it. Hoping to go back for ten days this year.

Any Ideas for self catering accommodation or is it possible to rent a house or something like that?

Also is the Schneewinkle pass the regular 5/6 day pass that costs €161?

    Cheers.

    Hiya

http://www.kitzalps.cc/de/skipasspreise.html Yes, the €161 for the 5 day is the schneewinkle pass.

As you can see on that page €188 will get you a five day Kitzbuhler Alpen pass which opens up a massive area if you want to spend each day in a different place.

There are not too many self catering places in St Jo but you could check out the likes of homelidays.com and ownersdirect.com and other holiday home rental sites.

There are lots of pensions in the town though and these are usually great with breakfast in the morning where you can grab a couple of rolls for your lunch and then eat out in the evening. Usually quite reasonable.

Also contact the tourist office for any offers that may be running - such as b+b with lift pass for a special price.
